About
I'm Ryan Potts - Rynos - a Canadian Director and Director of Photography based in Guangzhou, in southern China.
My mother flipped houses. I was the new kid in more than a few schools, and at some point I stopped treating that as disruption and started filing it as a skill. Home isn't a place; it's something you carry, and you can build something real with almost anyone, almost anywhere, if you show up open and ready to work. Twenty years behind a camera later, that's still the job: drop into a new city, a new crew, a new story, and make it sing.
That restlessness is also why I never let myself get boxed into a single look. Over the years the work has taken me well beyond China: Asian production teams have flown me out to shoot in the US, Canada, Europe, India, Thailand, and Vietnam, across commercial, fashion, brand-documentary, and narrative. For years I just called myself a cinematographer, because that's what the project in front of me asked for. At forty, standing on a runway between setups, I finally said the rest of it out loud: I'm a Director and a DP. Not someday, now.
What that means for you
I'm the one who makes hard, ambitious shoots actually happen - in whatever visual style the story needs. Fifteen years on the ground in China and across Asia built me a vetted network: crew, art, makeup, locations, fixing, translation - and the judgment to run the whole machine. Foreign brands and agencies can work with me directly, skip the agency-chain markup, and deal with the person actually making their images.
I treat light as emotional architecture - tone, texture, and movement carry as much weight as dialogue - whether it's a tabletop product film, a celebrity profile, a wellness campaign, or a 16mm narrative short. And I don't hand over a job; I help win it. "It can't be done" is where the interesting part of the conversation starts.

I also take on standalone colour grading - commercial, documentary, fashion, and experimental - including 16mm and early-digital emulation. For grading inquiries, use the same contact below; specify the format and runtime.
